Pentagon Studies

The Yahoo News headline for this story is “This Is Not a Joke: Government Issues Study of a Study About Studies.”

The Pentagon was inundated with so many studies in 2010 that it commissioned a study to determined how much it cost to produce all those studies.

Now the Government’s Accounting Office has reviewed the Pentagon’s study and concluded in a report this week that it’s a flop.

The Department of Defense’s “approach is not fully consistent with relevant cost estimating best practices and cost accounting standards,” the GAO concluded. In fact, they often did not include items like manpower, the report found.

This is why you should scoff at the whining about how cutting the military budget would ruin our military. The Pentagon had so many studies, they decided to have a study about the studies. That study is not finished. So Congress asked for a study of the study. And apparently, even though they do a whole lot of studies, the Pentagon does not know how to do them in a timely and efficient manner. So they’re wasting taxpayer money, and yet they insist expecting them to spend less would ruin the military.

Do not get me wrong. I am all for having a strong military. But seems to me that the military being more efficient would help rather than hinder that strength.

A study of a study about studies. How do they not see the inanity of this?
