Quick Bite: Quote of the Day

Yeah, I know. I have not put up a Quick Bite post in a long while. Anyway, I was reading an article at about the reaction of Julie Bindel (of The Guardian) to Burger King’s “Pride Whopper”. Near the beginning of the article, Scott Shackford said this: Continue reading

Quick Bite: Just Stopping in to Criticize Obama

So after three weeks of sugarcoating, i.e. deliberately downplaying and possibly lying about, the massive failure that is, President Obama gave a speech to tell people there was no sugarcoating it. Three weeks he took to get around to this. Yeah, real leadership there. (No, not really.) But then He also said this: “We waged this battle to make sure that millions of Americans in the wealthiest nation on Earth finally have the same chance to get the same security of affordable quality health care as anybody else.” The same as anybody else, except President Obama, Obama’s family, the U.S. Congress and congressional staff, i.e. the political class who think having Obamacare for themselves would be a bad idea. There is your leadership America. You should be ashamed.

From Matt Welch of reason:

One of the great ironies of this convention already is that speaker after speaker denounces Republicans for being unable to tell the truth or get their facts straight. Meanwhile, one of the most important truths of modern governance—we are well and truly out of money—sits neglected in the corner.

Over at (and apparently at the Richmond Times-Dispatch as well) A. Barton Hinkle has a good column up analyzing liberals’ attitudes about gun control. In the column he says: Continue reading

In a parenthetical note within a column about California propositions soon to be up for a vote, Scott Shackford said this:

Really, it’s clear at this point that the fastest way to legalize marijuana in the U.S. would be for MillerCoors to start growing hemp.

Our government can waste precious time and resources prosecuting baseball players Roger Clemens (twice) and Barry Bonds for lying about something they may have done that could hurt only themselves. But it will not pursue to its logical conclusion a calculated government guns program that resulted in the deaths of two border guards and more than 200 Mexican citizens.

Quick Bite: Arizona Cry Babies

Since the U.S. Supreme Court knocked down most of the Arizona anti-immigrant law, there seems to have been a lot of whining from Arizona government folks about how horrible that is. Here is my advice. Suck it up and shut up. The law was not some old tradition. It was relatively new law. You go back to doing what you did before. That you have less legal excuse to act on Luddite xenophobia is a good thing. You will get no sympathy from me.

Quick Bite: Spam Silliness

Today, one of the spam comments in the comments queue made me laugh. Obviously it was written by someone for whom English is not a first language. For example, it contained this sentence: “Headaches goodness all of a precipitately up up to the most intersection groove complaints.” Totally useless for communicating anything, but it made me laugh. It reminds me of the old Sprint commercial with the guy who says, “Cellular, scooter my daisy heads.”
